How to pick a subwoofer box for your system
When choosing a subwoofer box for your system, you typically have a choice of sealed or ported.
A sealed box is ideal for metal, rock, alternative, and classic rock. This type of box is ideal for people who want an accurate sound. This box also takes up less space so is more popular for people working with less space.
A ported box is ideal for people who want to hear the boom boom of their music. This is for the people who want everyone to hear them coming. This box is popular with R&B, hip hop, rap, some country – pretty much music with a lot of bass. This box does take up more space so if you choose this box, you do sacrifice space.
Buying a box:
When purchasing a box, you want to inspect the following item:
- Type of wood: MDF
- Thickness of wood: 5/8” to ¾”
- Caulking: Inspect the seams of the box to make sure it is sturdy.
- Terminals: This is really user dependent. We like the push pin type because the screw in type loosens up and can be an inconvenience.
Truck Boxes: At Bakersfield Car Audio, we do make custom boxes for the hard to fit trucks. If you show us your truck, what type of music you listen to, what subs you are putting in and where you want them, we can make you a box.
