What causes a melted fuse holder?
You are listening to your tunes when all of a sudden the music stops. You pop the hood and you see this.
AGU fuse holders are one of the biggest culprits of melting fuse holders.
Causes of a melted fuse holder include:
- Wire strands left outside the fuse holder
- Too much current for the gauge of wire
- Location – Ideally the fuse holder should be 1 ft away from the battery and not able to touch anything hot.
In the cheaper amp kits, the manufacturers use the cheapest possible AGU fuse holder. It is important to make sure the person doing your install is using quality parts or you will end up with an expensive problem down the line.
It is very common in Bakersfield (especially with our heat) that customers come in with melted fuse holders. When we do installs, we don’t mess with the AGU fuse holders. We always give our customers a complimentary upgrade to a mini ANL fuse holder even when the customer provides their own amp kit. Don’t let an inferior fuse holder wreck your install.
